What happens to image quality?
AVIF is typically lossy. You trade some quality for a smaller file; keep the BMP original if you may need to re-export later. AVIF can store transparency, but a flat BMP source has no alpha channel to recover. Conversion cannot invent missing transparency. AVIF is a raster image format, not a media container.
