Format Convertly is a privacy-first browser file workspace for converting, optimizing, extracting, inspecting and preparing files. This page summarizes the security-relevant parts of that design without inventing certifications or absolute guarantees.
Supported local conversions stay in the browser
For supported local conversions, selected files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to Format Convertly's conversion servers. That reduces unnecessary remote copies of conversion payloads.
Advanced tools such as OCR or speech recognition may still download libraries or models required to run. Remote URL import fetches a resource from the URL you provide. Those cases are explained on browser file processing.
Transport security
formatconvertly.com is served over HTTPS. HTTPS protects traffic between your browser and the website while in transit. It does not by itself describe what a product does after a file is uploaded to a server — which is why we emphasize processing location separately.
Browser security boundaries
The site uses a Content Security Policy and related browser security headers to limit unexpected script and connection behavior. Users should still keep browsers updated and be cautious with untrusted extensions, especially when handling confidential documents.
Workspace and local storage
My Workspace stores preferences, favorites, presets and lightweight history in browser localStorage — not conversion file bytes. You can export, import or clear that data from My Workspace. Read Workspace privacy for the exact fields.
Practical advice for sensitive files
- Prefer local file selection over remote URL import when privacy matters.
- Inspect metadata before sharing images or documents publicly.
- For highly regulated or extremely confidential material, consider a fully offline workflow that matches your organization's requirements.
