Terms of Service

1. Agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a legally binding agreement between you and Format Convertly ("Format Convertly", "we", "us", "our") governing your access to and use of https://formatconvertly.com and all related tools, converters and features (together, the "Service").

By accessing or using the Service you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to bind that organisation to these Terms.

2. What the Service is — and how it works

2.1 Description. Format Convertly provides browser-based file conversion and file utility tools, including format conversion for documents, images, audio, video, archives and structured data, together with tools such as PDF merge and split, image compression and resizing, and Base64 encoding.

2.2 Client-side processing. Conversions are performed entirely within your web browser, on your own device. Your files are not uploaded to Format Convertly or to any third party, and are not stored on any server operated by us. This is a defining feature of the Service and is described in detail in our Privacy Policy.

2.3 Practical consequences you accept. Because processing happens on your device:

• Performance depends on your hardware. Conversion speed and the maximum practical file size are limited by your device's processor and available memory.
• A practical per-file limit applies. To keep browser tabs stable, converters currently accept files up to 100 MB. That limit is about browser reliability, not about uploading to us.
• Browser limits apply. Very large files may exceed the memory available to a browser tab and fail.
• Nothing is queued or resumed. If you close the tab, refresh the page or lose connectivity mid-way, the conversion is lost. There is no server-side job to recover.
• No re-download. Once you close the page we cannot give you the file again, because we never had it. Save your output immediately.

2.4 No account required. You may use every converter and tool without registering. Account and Pro features shown on the site are planned convenience extras and are not required for conversion.

3. Eligibility

You may use the Service only if you are at least 16 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country of residence if that age is higher, and are legally able to enter into this agreement. By using the Service you represent that this is true.

4. Your licence to use the Service

4.1 Licence. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for your own lawful purposes, including commercial and business use of your own files.

4.2 Free to use. The free tier is free and unlimited in the number of conversions. We do not add watermarks to output. The 100 MB per-file limit exists so conversion can finish reliably in a browser tab.

4.3 Restrictions. You agree not to:

• use the Service to process material you do not have the legal right to process;
• use the Service to infringe any third party's copyright, trademark, trade secret, privacy or other rights;
• convert or distribute unlawful content, including content that is defamatory, obscene, or that infringes intellectual property rights;
• attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, its systems or other users' data;
• reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract source code beyond what applicable law permits;
• use automated tools to scrape, crawl, overload or disrupt the Service;
• resell, sublicense, rebrand or offer the Service as a competing product without written permission;
• remove or obscure any branding, notices or attributions;
• misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organisation;
• use the Service to violate any applicable law, regulation or export control.

4.4 Open-source components. The Service uses open-source software libraries which are subject to their own licences. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under those licences.

5. Your files and your responsibility

5.1 Ownership. You retain all rights, title and interest in and to the files you convert and the output produced. We claim no ownership in your content.

5.2 Your responsibility. Because we cannot see, review or verify the files you convert, you alone are responsible for them. You represent and warrant that:

• you own the files or have all necessary rights, licences and permissions to process them;
• your use does not infringe any third party's rights;
• where a file contains personal data belonging to others, you have a lawful basis to process it and have complied with applicable data protection law.

5.3 You are the controller. Where you convert files containing personal data of other people, you are the data controller and we are not a processor of that data — we never receive it. You are responsible for your own compliance.

5.4 Keep your own copies. Always retain an original copy of any file before converting it. Conversion is not reversible and may alter formatting, layout, metadata or fidelity.

6. Accounts and paid plans

Account sign-in and paid Pro features may be advertised as coming soon. They are not live yet. Until authentication and payments are enabled:

• we do not create or store user accounts;
• we do not process subscription payments;
• every converter and tool remains free to use under these Terms.

When accounts or paid plans launch, we will update these Terms with billing, cancellation and refund rules before those features become available. Planned Pro extras (such as saved presets) will never gate basic conversion behind a paywall.

Current pricing intent is described on the Pricing page and may change on reasonable notice.

7. Intellectual property

7.1 Our property. The Service, including its design, code, text, graphics, logos, converter listings, guides and editorial content, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the licence in Section 4.1, no rights are transferred to you.

7.2 Your content. Your files and the output you generate remain yours. We take no licence over them.

7.3 Feedback. If you send us suggestions or ideas, we may use them without obligation or compensation to you.

7.4 Brand. "Format Convertly", its logo and related marks may not be used without written permission.

8. Disclaimers — no warranty

8.1 "As is". THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

8.2 Output accuracy. Conversion between formats is inherently lossy. Output may differ from the original in layout, formatting, fonts, colour, metadata, timing or fidelity. We do not warrant that output will be identical to the input, that it will be error-free, or that it will suit your particular purpose. Always check converted output before relying on it, especially for legal, financial, medical, technical or print-critical documents.

8.3 No guarantee of availability. We aim to keep the Service available but do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or free of errors. We may add, change, suspend or remove any tool or format at any time without notice.

8.4 Browser dependency. The Service depends on browser capabilities that vary between browsers, versions and devices. Some formats may not be available or may behave differently in certain environments.

8.5 Not professional advice. Guides and blog content are provided for general information only and are not legal, financial, medical or professional advice.

9. Limitation of liability

9.1 TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEITHER FORMAT CONVERTLY NOR ITS DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AFFILIATES OR SUPPLIERS SHALL BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

9.2 OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD 100.

9.3 In particular, we are not liable for any loss or corruption of your files. Because your files are processed only on your own device, you are responsible for maintaining your own backups.

9.4 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

9.5 Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations. In those jurisdictions, the limitations above apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Format Convertly and its officers, directors, employees and affiliates from any claim, liability, loss, damage or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of (a) your breach of these Terms, (b) the files you convert or the rights you do or do not hold in them, or (c) your use of any output produced by the Service.

11. Suspension and termination

11.1 You may stop using the Service at any time.

11.2 We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if continued provision would create legal or security risk for us.

11.3 On termination, the licence in Section 4.1 ends. Sections 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13 and 14 survive termination.

12. Third-party services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or load open-source libraries from public CDNs so conversion can run in your browser. We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their content, practices or policies. Your use of any third-party service is governed by that party's own terms.

13. Changes to the Service and these Terms

13.1 We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time.

13.2 We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version will always be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes will be announced on the Service or by email where we hold your address.

13.3 Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service.

14. General

14.1 Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of the United Arab Emirates have exclusive jurisdiction, except where you are a consumer entitled to the mandatory protection of your country of residence.

14.2 Severability. If any provision is held unenforceable, the remainder continues in full effect and the provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable.

14.3 Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, form the entire agreement between you and Format Convertly regarding the Service, and supersede any prior agreements.

14.4 Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a merger, sale of assets or restructuring, with notice.

14.5 No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it.

14.6 No third-party beneficiaries. These Terms do not confer rights on any person other than you and us.

14.7 Force majeure. We are not liable for failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control.

14.8 Language. These Terms are written in English. Any translation is provided for convenience only.
