Cookie Policy
Format Convertly — https://formatconvertly.com
Effective date: 14 September 2026 · Last updated: 14 September 2026
The short version
Format Convertly sets no advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking cookies, and no third-party cookies. We run no ad networks and we do not sell or share tracking data.
The only thing stored in your browser today is a small functional preference — your light or dark theme — so the site remembers it next time. Block it and everything still works.
And because your files are converted entirely inside your browser and are never uploaded to us, no cookie, tracker or analytics system anywhere has any connection to the contents of the files you convert.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. When you return to that site, your browser sends the cookie back, letting the site recognise your device or remember a setting.
Cookies are generally grouped as:
| Type | Purpose | Do we use them? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Make the site work at all (session, security, preferences) | Functional preferences only (via local storage) |
| Functional | Remember choices such as appearance | Yes — theme preference |
| Analytics / performance | Measure how the site is used | No |
| Advertising | Target or measure ads, follow you across sites | Never |
| Third-party / social | Set by embedded third parties | None |
A related technology is local storage (your browser's localStorage), which stores small amounts of data on your device in the same spirit as cookies but without being sent back to the server on each request. We use local storage rather than cookies for preferences, because it is simpler and sends nothing to us.
2. Exactly what we store
| Item | Technology | What it holds | Lifetime | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
fc-theme | localStorage | Light or dark appearance | Until you clear it | So the interface matches your preference |
That is the complete list today. We do not store your files, filenames, or conversion results in cookies or local storage. Converted output goes straight from your browser's memory to your downloads folder.
We do not currently set session cookies, analytics cookies, or preference keys for output format. If we add more functional storage later (for example remembering a dismissed notice or a last-used output format), we will update this table.
A note on names. The exact key name above may change as the site develops. What will not change is the principle: we store only what the interface needs to work comfortably, and never identifiers that follow you between websites.
3. What we do not use
To be unambiguous, Format Convertly does not:
- serve advertisements, or participate in any advertising network;
- set third-party cookies on behalf of advertisers, ad exchanges or data brokers;
- use cross-site tracking, retargeting pixels, or advertising identifiers;
- use social-media tracking widgets that profile you (our social links are plain hyperlinks);
- build behavioural profiles, or sell, rent or trade personal data;
- embed third-party content that would set cookies without your knowledge.
Page scripts that load open-source conversion libraries into your browser do so so that your device can convert files locally. They are not advertising trackers and they do not receive your files.
4. Analytics
We do not currently run any analytics software. We do not count your visits individually and we do not build any profile of you. This is why you will not see a cookie-consent banner for analytics: nothing requiring that kind of consent is being stored.
If we add privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics later, we will update this policy first.
5. Your files are never part of any of this
It is worth repeating the core fact about Format Convertly: your files are converted inside your own browser, on your own device, and are never uploaded to us.
That means no cookie, pixel, analytics tool or server log — ours or anyone else's — has any access to the files you convert, their contents, their metadata, or their filenames. Cookie policy and file privacy are completely separate questions here, and the answer to both is the same: we do not collect it.

6. How to control cookies and storage
You are always in control. Options include:
6.1 In your browser. Every mainstream browser lets you view, block or delete cookies and site data.
| Browser | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Chrome / Edge | Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data |
| Firefox | Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data |
| Safari | Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data |
| Brave | Settings → Shields / Privacy |
| Mobile | The equivalent section inside your browser's settings |
6.2 Private / incognito mode. Storage is discarded when you close the window, so nothing persists.
6.3 Clear on exit. Most browsers can delete cookies and site data automatically when you close them.
6.4 Third-party tools. Browser extensions such as uBlock Origin can block storage and scripts outright.
6.5 What happens if you block everything. Format Convertly keeps working. Every converter and tool functions correctly with cookies and local storage fully disabled. The only difference is cosmetic: the site will forget your light/dark theme preference between visits.
7. Do Not Track
We honour the spirit of Do Not Track. Since we do not track you across sites in the first place, enabling Do Not Track does not change your experience.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if the storage we use changes. The current version is always on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. If we ever add anything that requires your consent under applicable law, we will ask for it before it is set.
