My Workspace is designed to make Format Convertly more useful without requiring a traditional cloud account.
Workspace information such as favorites, presets, preferences and lightweight history is stored in your browser on your device using localStorage. That means Workspace data does not automatically follow you to every computer or browser.
My Workspace is local-first
Format Convertly's Workspace is intended to use browser-side storage rather than a cloud account database. Your Workspace experience can be available without requiring an email address or password.
Local-first storage also means browser data can be removed by browser cleanup, private mode or device changes.
What information may be stored locally?
Only categories present in the current implementation are listed:
- Favorites — converters or tools you mark for faster access (
id,type,title,href,savedAt). - Presets — saved combinations of real conversion settings such as quality, width or related whitelisted options.
- Preferences / profile — display name, preferred language, theme, default quality, remove-metadata, aspect-ratio and auto-download preferences.
- History — lightweight records of recent conversion activity: source/target formats, original and output sizes, completion time, converter slug and href. Filenames and file bytes are not stored.
- Workflow configuration — locally saved image/PDF workflow step lists where supported.
Related non-Workspace keys may also exist in this browser (for example theme or locale preferences). Those are still on-device settings, not conversion file uploads.
Does Workspace upload my files?
No. Workspace is not a cloud file-storage service. Conversion files are not stored inside Workspace. History records activity metadata rather than keeping server copies of source files.
Does Workspace sync between devices?
Workspace data does not automatically sync between your devices or browsers. Favorites saved in one browser profile will not automatically appear in another unless you explicitly export and import supported Workspace data.
What happens if I clear my browser data?
Locally stored Workspace information may be deleted if you clear browser site data. This can include favorites, presets, preferences, history and other locally stored Workspace settings. Export a backup first if you want to keep a copy.
What happens in private or incognito browsing?
Private browsing modes usually isolate or discard website storage differently from standard browsing sessions. Do not rely on incognito/private mode for long-term Workspace storage. Exact behavior depends on the browser.
Exporting Workspace data
Workspace Export creates a portable JSON representation of supported Workspace settings (kind formatconvertly.workspace.backup). You can save it and later import it.
Exported backups are not encrypted by Format Convertly. They may include personal organization information such as preference labels or history metadata. Treat export files carefully.
Importing Workspace data
Importing changes locally stored Workspace information. The product validates backup shape before accepting merge or replace imports. Import does not execute arbitrary code from the JSON file.
How to delete Workspace data
In My Workspace you can clear history, reset presets or clear the entire Workspace. Browser site settings can also remove locally stored data. Deletion from one browser does not automatically affect another device where separate Workspace data exists.
Note: the informational page you are reading (/workspace-privacy) may be indexed. The application itself at /workspace remains a noindex utility.
