How to Open HEIC Files
HEIC is Apple’s high-efficiency photo container. It looks great and saves space, but many Windows apps, CMS uploads, and older Android galleries still reject it. If a file “won’t open,” it usually means the device lacks a HEIF/HEVC decoder — not that the photo is corrupt.

Windows 10/11
Install HEIF Image Extensions (and HEVC Video Extensions when prompted), then open in Photos — or convert to JPG once for universal compatibility.
Android
Newer Android builds and Google Photos often open HEIC. Older phones may fail — convert to JPG before transferring.
Steps
- Confirm the extension is .heic or .heif (not a renamed JPG).
- Try opening on an Apple device or in a HEIF-aware app (Photos, Preview, Google Photos).
